Save the undeveloped coastline and estuary of Sand Lake...

Sand Lake Dunes

3/18/08 Update:  The owner of the property, Frank & Joyce Bastasch, have been advocating for a golf course & destination resort development.  They filed a Measure 37 claim for the property, alleging that the best use of the land is a golf course and hotel/condominiums.  Their claim, in front of the Tillamook County Board of Commissioners, was denied by a 2-1 vote.

Many thanks to professional film producer Ron Bourke of Tierra Del Mar.

How to get there: Tierra Del Mar is located just north of Pacific City and Cape Kiwanda State Park on Sandlake Road.

From Tillamook, take Highway 101 south and turn right on Sandlake Road.  Follow Sandlake Road west and then south to Tierra Del Mar.  Turn right on Bilyeu Avenue to the Community Hall.

If you are coming from the south, take Highway 101 north and turn left on Brooten Rd. (west) towards Pacific City.  Drive into Pacific City and turn left at a 4-way stop.  Drive over the bridge and turn right on Sandlake Rd. and stay on this road to Tierra Del Mar.

Click here for a map to Tierra Del Mar.

The area is home to threatened and endangered species and Sand Lake is one of only two major estuaries designated as a “natural” estuary by the State of Oregon.  The Sand Lake Estuary and Dunes is situated near Whalen Island, Cape Kiwanda and Cape Lookout State Parks and Siuslaw National Forest lands.
